Our Philosophy

The best folk music comes straight from the heart. It transcends time, color, geography, age, and nationality.

A song that a Swedish kid plays on a sidewalk in Barcelona... that was written by a guy in Kentucky... who heard it from his Irish grandmother who remembered an old man singing it in Dublin 75 years ago. That's how folk infects and then roots.

Silly Folkers connects you to the greatest, the unknown, and, occasionally, to our own folk creations.

About Us

Silly Folkers' passion is to connect folk music from its earliest roots right up to today.
We share music traditions from around the world to show how this music connects all of humanity.
Today more than ever, thanks to technology!

Music for Social Change

One good song with a message can bring a point more deeply to more people than a thousand rallies.

Every Generation

I know my generation - a lot of them, they're getting old now, and they want to think back fondly, they want to kid themselves. A lot of them think, 'Yeah, we were the best.' That's the kiss of death. That's non-growth. And also that's very bad for the world.                                      - Joni Mitchell

People seem ready for a more in-depth idea of folk music, culture and history.                                 - Rhiannon Giddens

Evolution of Folk Music

Silly Folkers see folk music as representing the hope, laughter, anger, and tears of humanity. A thousand streams of this music flow into 100 rivers, all filling one universal sea of souls.

So folk music is a river... but not just the Shenandoah. The Yangtze and the Seine too. It’s Jesus and yin and yang. It’s American Whiskey and Russian Vodka. It’s men mining coal in Pennsylvania, men and women picking cotton in Mississippi, and girls pounding corn in Mali. It begins with people and doesn’t have an end.

Our goal is to bring people together around the traditions and to share the new. Stay tuned and stay in touch.

Music for People

I am out to sing songs that will prove to you that this is your world and that if it has hit you pretty hard and knocked you for a dozen loops, no matter what color, what size you are, how you are built, I am out to sing the songs that make you take pride in yourself and in your work. And the songs that I sing are made up for the most part by all sorts of folks just about like you.                                                                 - Woody Guthrie
